Located within the first designated Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ), the 1300 block of Carroll Avenue is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and contains the highest concentration of 19th-century Victorian homes in Los Angeles. Known as Los Angeles' first suburb, and just two miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, this home provides contrast to the famous Victorians on the street, many of which have been featured on popular television shows and music videos. Calling attention to many original details on this two-story home with a large open attic, this home features distinct Californian architecture with its lower roof, simple lines upon a Japanese air of slight roof eave upsweep, and precise spooled stone porch posts. Clearly this is a style influenced by the Japanese pagoda of the World's Fair at that time.
