    Eagle Rock Midcentury Post and Beam, 1959. Although the post and beam home began as a small, one bedroom residence in 1959, later additions and modifications done in the Modernist style by Oakley L. Norton transformed the property to reflect his design aesthetic to resemble the other homes he built on Escarpa Drive. Oakley's design is part folk architecture, part bohemian, part International Style, and part eclecticism, all of which mirror the cultural and physical changes of the built environment during the 1950s and early 1960s. Their time at this home, as Oakley's family recalls, was intended to be a brief stop until their new home next door was being completed. And while their tenure here was only a few years, Oakley's need for additional space during this time resulted in the expansion of the home to 1,346 square feet (measured) and current configuration of the house. Now, the house has three bedrooms, and two bathrooms on the main level, and a separate, measured, 636 square-foot ADU/One bedroom space on the lower level. Additionally, there is a 375 square-foot storage area on the third, lower level. Each level of the home has expansive views of the San Rafael Hills as well as views of the northeast Los Angeles valley floor and Glendale, all of which can be experienced from within the home or on the wide, west-facing balconies. The interior of the home is, in part, clad with vertical, richly-hued wood paying homage to Norton's architectural contemporaries.
