This landmark building located in Westlake, Los Angeles, is a double-registered historical and cultural building, designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #45 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This ornately-detailed Victorian house, built in 1893 (near the end of the British Victorian Period), features elements of Queen Anne architectural styles. The building has been beautifully revitalized to protect its historical and cultural heritage, restoring the original 1893 design, while modernizing the foundation and structure of the house, as well as the water, electricity, and gas pipelines. Except for the foundation, the exterior of the building does not make use of any cement; all hardwood exterior doors and window trims are made using mahogany. Interior and exterior walls are made from redwood. From restoring the indoor fireplaces and antique tiles, to renovating the roof and dry walls, rebuilding hand-carved pieces of damaged wooden walls, mending structural support frames, and restoring dozens of original wooden doors and windows to their original redwood shine, no expense was spared to return the Wright-Mooers House back to its original glory. Purchase price includes all antique furniture and paintings. The history of this building is the history of California, from the Gold Rush to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Frederick Mitchell Mooers, a successful gold miner, selected the most renowned craftsmen on the West Coast to carve and polish by hand this classic Victorian art palace as a private retreat. Since then, the building has appeared popular media, including photoshoots for iconic magazines and movies filmed in and around the property. Lois Chiles, a “Bond girl” with Roger Moore in 1979’s “Moonraker,” was famously fond of the home. The building also graced the cover of the Los Angeles Times’ Home & Garden section, in a feature dedicated to the building’s designation as a National Registered Historical Building. The Frederick Mitchell Mooers House is now ready for its next owner to continue California’s great historical and cultural legacy, as private residence or boutique hotel.
