Agent Remarks: Originally conceived in 1949 by celebrated California modern architect Craig Ellwood, the Broughton House features a beautiful boxy construction with walls of glass and "Miesian styled" steel beam supports. The design raises the main living area of the house on steel columns, a full floor above the ground. The house is a glass box with an outdoor sundeck protected by opaque walls. The property, which predates Ellwood's Los Angeles Case Study designs 16, 17 & 18, was renovated by Bohl Architects. The main level is highlighted by a contemporary kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a massive fireplace and hearth, and exposed beam ceilings. The original bedrooms were converted into a sumptuous master suite with adjacent dressing/office area replete with en-suite master bath. The lower floor features two bedrooms, a three-quarter bathroom, oversized utility room and direct access to an outdoor entertaining area. This was Ellwoods first project featured in Art & Architecture magazine.
